Overview

<aside> 📋 README: This section is on where you can present and publish your work following a research assistantship. Long-story short, there are opportunities specifically opened to undergraduate students and opportunities that are opened to all researchers. We are going to talk about both but mainly focus on the undergraduate-specific opportunities.

📚Undergraduate Journals

If you have school work, course-project, and research projects you’ve worked on for a while and are particularly proud of. You can consider submit these work to undergraduate academic journals run by students. Within UofT, we have a psychology-specific undergraduate journal that has been run for 13 years! See below for other undergraduate journals.

🕎Undergraduate Conferences and Posters

👩‍🔬General Conference / Publication Opportunities

If you’re working in a lab on a research project, you should always talk to your PI and supervising graduate students first before considering submitting your work anywhere else. The golden rule to keep in mind is this: Before you submit anything with another person's name on it, such as an abstract, you must send it to them first for review. This ensures respect and integrity in your collaborative research efforts.

Depending on the nature of your project, labs usually will discuss the outcomes of these work. Don’t be discouraged if your lab is not planning to follow-up on your project and get it published in a conference / academic journal - that happened a lot more often than you think. If you run into things like this, you can always consider the undergraduate opportunities listed above. Remember, as early-early career researchers, our goal is to get research experiences! Prioritize the process rather than the results can help build a resilient and strong mindset.

<aside> 😆 Mei’s story: My supervisor recently asked me if I want to submit a poster to an important conference in visual science. I said yes - and there we go. You should also get into the good habit of tracking the important conferences in your field (and the deadlines for submission).
